Basement sewage cleanup and disinfection Norfolk, Virginia

Aftercare just completed clean up of a basement flooded with raw sewage. The house was a rental and the heat was not working. When the heating and air company came out to do repair the tech walked down to find the basement flooded with 3 inches of raw sewage. They could not get to the system do to the sewage contamination. This is where we came in. Aftercare used three technicians to clean out the free standing sewage. We started with proper safety equipment Tykem F suits are a must in bad sewage Cleanups. These suits are expensive but worth every penny once you get sewage all over you. Heavy duty boots and gloves are a must to protect workers from sickness. Aftercare uses full face respirators to protect the eyes and lungs. A lot of homeowners don't understand why sewage cleanup is so expensive, safety equipment is a big part of the expense. Full face respirators cost about 135.00 per mask. Some of the suits are workers wear can run between 12.00 to 45.00 a suit. Disposal fees can add up to a large amount. Once or workers were protected we went to work. Shoveling thick raw sewage into 3mil bags can be a nasty job. Within 15min you will be covered in sewage. Removal of all trash and any items contaminated with sewage may require a dumpster. Once all solids are gone aftercare uses vacuums to suck up all liquid sewage water. With a water hose we start washing down all exposed areas. A 3 step bio-wash down is important to eliminate germs and disease. Drying the exposed area with fans and dehumidifiers keeps mold and fungus from growing. The final step aftercare does is a post treatment of micro ban to kill of any germs that remain. Aftercare can clean up your basement if you have contamination problem. Animal waste, Raw sewage, water or urine we have done it all. Free estimate in any HAMPTON ROADS city. (757) 535-4367

Will my Homeowner’s Insurance Pay for a Sewage Cleanup in my Crawl Space?

In most cases, probably not. In almost every case the claims adjuster is going to report that the sewer line failed as a result of deterioration in the pipe. In fact, the adjuster is going to ask many pointed questions as to your activity regarding maintenance of the sewer line. Although the pipe is under the ground, Adjusters feel that it is your property and you are responsible for maintaining it. Aftercare advises that you contact us before calling your insurance company. Together we can inspect the problem and come up with a presentation for the adjuster assigned. The more knowledge you have the better the outcome for coverage.

There is however, a caveat that may exist. If the sewer pipe is part of the infrastructure of the city or town in which you reside, there may be coverage under the homeowner’s policy. There is an endorsement available called “water backup and sump overflow”. Although this endorsement is normally purchased for homes with finished basements, you may have gotten it added to your policy automatically by the agent. The coverage usually has a sub-limit of $5,000 or $10,000 along with a deductible. If the water and sludge under your home is the result of a backup in the infrastructure, then coverage will respond subject to the limit and deductible.

In some areas of the country where cities and towns have been affected by a shrinking tax base, often times infrastructure maintenance is reduced to alleviate stress on the budget. If that is the case where you reside then coverage may be available via the water backup endorsement.

Aftercare knows the ends and outs of making a claim for sewage spills under homes. Our technicians can start immediately.
